Since 1917, milk has been delivered fresh to our Devon dairy. That’s why you can rely on Ambrosia to provide a delicious, wholesome treat without artificial colours or preservatives. Devon Custard tastes so creamy and smooth, with more than a glass and a half of skimmed milk in every 425 g can. Very pleased with this vendor’s service. We have ordered Devon custard several times, and are familiar with this product. I would definitely recommend ordering from them, and will order in the future.
Item uses artificial flavor. Description was misleading in that it strongly implies that the product is natural by using phrases such as “without artificial colours or preservatives” while neglecting to mention other artificial ingredients (namely flavoring). I never use products that contain artificial ingredients; I want my recipes prepared by cooks, not by chemists. If that’s not important to you then you may like this product.
two cans were horribly dented. I did not contact seller, not worth the hassle. will see how the next shipment goes. the un-dented cans were, as expected, delicious.
should the next ones come in where i have to dispose of half , i will cancel subscription
I must admit my purchase was made out of curiosity not familiarity so my review is a “de novo” thing. This custard is wonderfully creamy but I was hoping for something a little more thick and the flavor is very mild. I would have preferred a little more depth of flavor. But since it was my first experience with this, what I got was probably exactly what the maker offered and the differences are on me.
I like this but I don’t *love* it. I’m going to have to try custard powder next.
I discovered Ambrosia custard while in Ireland and absolutely love the subtle taste and smooth texture. Ambrosia is a great light dessert when looking for something with minimal sugar, and the taste better than Birds, imo. I would like to be able to purchase it in the aseptic boxes sold in the UK but am happy it’s available at Amazon.
A friend from England ordered this custard for me to try. He guaranteed me that I would really like this as I am very fond of custard, but rarely make it. He was right!!! It is the best custard that I have ever eaten. You will not be disappointed!!!
This is a very rich version of British “custard” (not set, more like our vanilla pudding). It is usually served hot. I prefer Bird’s Custard, which is a powdered mix that you add to milk and then sweeten to taste. I can make it with skim milk and halve the sugar and it makes a great creamy sauce to pour over a fruit crisp. This stuff is good, too, but it’s a bit thick and sweet for my personal taste. Still, sometimes I find I crave it (and their rice pudding as well). It reminds me of the custard in many creme brulees, so if you enjoy that level of richness, you should give this a try.
A delicately flavored custard that is wonderful hot or cold; by itself or used to make a delicious dessert such as trifle. I first tasted it when I was in England years ago & was sorry that I could find nothing like it here in the States- now I have found it & am glad.
I do a lot of grocery shopping at a nearby Fresh and Easy Market. They’re a British company and sell a lot of items imported from England. It’s fun to try out new things. One of the new items is a 15-ounce can of Ambrosia Devon Custard.
This is good! The label suggest that it’s good hot, but I like it chilled from the fridge. The texture is smooth and creamy. The taste is excellent. The calories and fat content are modest with cholesterol being very low. The sodium content is tiny. This stuff could easily be used as a topping for something. Use your imagination. Personally, I just enjoy eating a small bowl of it. Really delicious!
This is great over the sponge cake, but also by itself or with fruit. Great taste and it shipped quickly.
I live in the UK and buy this custard for my sister-in-law in Arizona as a little present now and again. Why? Well she’s crazy about this custard and just cannot get enough of it. I like it too and wonder why there’s nothing comparable to it available in the US
found this at cost plus world market like other review bought it out of curiosity hoping to make a tres leeches cake
My husband is English and of course misses a lot of grocery items from home. It’s been great lately that Amazon has started to offer so many of these beloved foods. Bought both the Ambrosia Custard and their Rice Pudding. The Custard is the original Ambrosia custard from the UK and very tasty. If you aren’t familiar with it, you may not like it as it has a slightly artificial taste, but if you are English or from the Commonwealth and know the product, I can assure you it’s the original.

It’s addictive!! Actually I am fond of Jane Austen movies. I’ve seen Sony Classic Pictures Persuasion many, many times. I noticed, in a luncheon scene after Anne’s family moves to Bath, that the family was eating custard and it looked so yummy. So, I looked up English Custard and voila! Devon custard is the greatest in a parfait glass with whipped cream on top. Mmmmm. There’s nothing like it!
yes, truly ambrosia, like some folks with a pint of ice cream, a serving isn’t enough ! creamy not too sweet just scrummy by itself ! i am SO Happy i can find it here, i’ve ordered it on rotation to ensure i don’t run out !
