Sumatra is one of the world’s more exotic coffee destinations … and peopled by folks of great character. Sumatran coffees tend to show tremendous character, too, and ours is no exception. We’ve updated our roast for the K-Cup version of this coffee … Our roast is now deep and deliciously dark, offering a sweet palate of brown sugar and spice notes. Look for lots of body in this big, bold K-Cup coffee. K-cups are compatible with all Keurig brewers, and are also compatible with the new Keurig 2.0
I love bold coffee and this was my favorite. However, something happened and the coffee is no longer as good as it was. It is not as bold and has lost taste. Shucks!!
I’ve tried them all. I’ve sampled each kind. I know that taste is subjective, but if bold is your thing, and delicious true coffee flavor is what you seek, give this a try. I don’t buy mine, by the way, anywhere but at Target, where they’re $9.95 for a box of 18. I usually buy 5-6 boxes at a time (they sell out quickly). For the decaf equivalent of this, the French Roast (also Green Mountain’s brand) is equally as bold and flavorful. Happy Holidays!
This K cup is great, but this price is double that of other companies. I made the mistake of thinking this price was for 2 boxes. It is not! You can get this box of 24 at an online k cup site for $11.99 or at another for $12.95!
Shop around! Save $$$!
I absolutely love the Sumatran by Green Mountain would have to be the top five of my favorite coffees. Smooth and lightly rich. My only qualm is maybe its a typo but amazon is selling a (24) K-cup box for $21.95 and all other places have it for 11-15 a box of 24? I was just wondering why it cost soooo much more?
I’m a fan of the extra bold K-cups. This is one of my favorite XBold varieties. It is very consistent flavor from cup to cup. It is strong, with almost a chocolate undertone and very little bitter aftertaste compared to most K-cup dark roasts. Trying to extend my dollar a little further I had an extra large coffee mug one morning (the usual one was in the dish washer – dirty) and decided to brew my standard large cup and an extra brew (same k-cup) with the smallest setting. I was surprised that it still had a lot of flavor and didn’t taste watery or weak.
Much better than the Green Mountain Dark Magic or Double Black Diamond. Those left a bitter and burnt aftertaste, even with more sugar and cream than usual.
For reference I also enjoy Emeril’s Midnight Magic and the Newman’s Own (medium roast, extra bold).
Just be mindful of the price fluctuations and make sure you check the price per K-cup, some entries list price per ounce – which can make the coffee look more or less expensive than others.
This is one of my favorite Keurig cups. I brew this with 2 – 8 oz cycles through a single cup. WOW what a tasty cup of joe. Dark and smoky with just the hint of an espresso edge. I am always disappointed when I run out and realize that I have once again been drinking too much COFFEE!
Nice and strong but a little bitter. I think I’ve been spoiled drinking espresso coffees that I expect a similar smoothness that may not be possible in this format. I’ll keep looking!
This is one of the better K cups flavors. It makes a “good” cup of coffee as many of my guests tell me and some go back for a “few cups” more. Very satisfying when others agree with your choice.
I’ve tried at least (10) different varieties of K-Cups and Green Mountain Sumatra is my favorite.
It’s bold, a great kick, no bitter or nasty after taste and easily available most everywhere. It is very close in taste to Starbuck’s, brewed Sumatra, in my opinion. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Have been searching for quiet some time to find the perfect coffee k-cups. Well, I found them in the Green Mountain Organic Sumatran Reserve. I truly enjoy my daily afternoon treat.
I enjoyed this coffee. Good flavor. Reasonable priced. If you want a good cup of coffee I suggest any of Green Mountain’s coffees.
Although not as good as coffee made from fresh ground Sumatra beans, it’s the best K cup Sumatra we have tried. The speed and convenience is an adequate rating gap filler.
I just love this coffee. I tried many varieties of bold and extra bold coffees and I did like some of them. However, this coffee is in its own league. If you like Starbucks Sumatra, try this one – this is million times better. Love it. Love it. Love it. Very strong bold taste but not bitter at all and leaves excellent notes on your taste bud.
I guess this Is why it’s called BOLD! One k-cup makes a large cup like 16Oz for me which is good. More bang for the buck, some might say! I used creamer … More than usual. But I absolutely LOVE Sumatra blend. Glad you guys have it. I would prefer a softer taste but this is great for now.

This is my favorite flavor for the Keurig. Very dark, rich flavor(but not a burnt flavor). Just smelling it would put me in a better mood. Highly recommend.
One of my favorites. Bold and flavorful without the taste of “conference coffee”. In my opinion the Starbucks Sumatra k-cup has the flavor of conference coffee so this one wins hands down.
For reference purposes my in store drink is a Starbucks Americano.
My favorite k-cups are:
Starbucks French Roast
Starbucks Caffe Verona
Starbucks Pike Place Roast
Green Mountain Xtra Bold Sumatran Reserve
Green Mountain Double Black Diamond
Green Mountain Revv
Green Mountain Dark Magic
Other k-cups I’ve tried: Coffee People Jet Fuel ,Green Mountain Dark Magic Decaf, Emeril Jazzed up Decaf, Starbucks Caffe Verona, Coffee People Black Tiger, Starbucks House Blend, Starbucks Breakfast Blend, Starbucks Sumatra, Wolfgang Puck French Roast, Green Mountain Lake and Lodge, Green Mountain French Roast, Caribou Mahogony, Wolfgang Puck Sumatra Kopi Raya, Emeril Big Easy Bold
Good morning jolt of coffee but not bitter. Not for the occasional drinker. Quick ship and as expected. Won’t be disappointed
This is my favorite K-Cup. When I visit a Starbucks, I’ll get their Sumatra whenever it’s available. I now have had the opportunity to compare the Starbucks Sumatra K-Cup vs. the Green Mountain Sumatran. I’m torn. Maybe Starbucks has slight advantage. But there’s a pretty significant difference in cost between the two. So Green Mountain wins.
Very Pleased – Coffee was sent quickly, it was securely packed. Great value for the product. Thanks much!! Will certainly be back.
I love Sumatran beans and Green Mountain puts out a good product. Good flavor and very bold. If you like dark coffees, Sumatran soil grows some of the best in my opinion.
This coffee is strong and robust without a bitter taste! If you prefer dark coffee with a bold taste…this one is for you! It is similar to a Black tiger in K-cup.

This morning I brewed the Extra Bold Sumatran Reserve and mixed in a little Coffee-Mate Peppermint Mocha Creamer and Land O Lakes Cocoa Classics: Mint & Chocolate Hot Cocoa Mix – SOOOOO YUMMY!!
The rich deep flavor of the coffee is the primary flavor and then you get this cool minty finish.
This is a perfect drink for a chilly morning!
A very delicious full-flavored cup of coffee. My favorite when I am in the mood for a great BOLD cup! Yum! And organic too!!
I was new to the K-cup game and had been trying out different brands/types and just could not find a good BOLD/Dark Roast coffee. Finally I did! Green Mountain Coffee Extra Bold Sumatran Reserve is great! I love starting my morning with a good bold cup of coffee. If you like bold/dark roasts, then you’ll love this one; if you prefer a “lighter” coffee, you would be better off with something different.
I was going to re-order the Newman’s Own K-Cups I normally order, but the price jumped for whatever reason, so I went searching for a replacement. I found these, tried them out, and I’m happy. Good bold taste with no bitterness. These will be in my regular morning coffee rotation.

I tried this for the first time this spring. I fell in love with it. I was never a fan of darker, bolder coffee until trying the Sumatran coffee. I love it! This is the only brand of Sumatran that I have tried so I can only speak of my experience with Green Mountain. Bold, sweet, perfect with no bitterness!
