Didn’t get what I ordered
terrific bread but too pricey
This bread is FANTASTIC. Great flavor, great texture, and a total hit with my company. I’m going to feel sad after I bake the last box, but no loaf of bread, especially a loaf you bake yourself, is worth almost $3 a loaf. If the price becomes more reasonable, I’ll buy it more often.

I live with my brother, who shares my love of heated foods; he suggested adding a little heat to this mix. What a great idea it turned out to be.
My first try was some dried, ground chili peppers (I dry my own in a dehydrator); not bad.
Next, I tried some fresh, finely chopped jalapenos. Wow, what a great loaf!
Here’s the thing; if using dried peppers, put them in at the beginning. If using the fresh peppers, put them in at the time for add-ins (according to the instructions for your machine).

surprisingly tasty bread
this stuff tastes grand! makes me think of pizza for some reason. would be nice if the maker supplied the list of “herbs” somewhere. [*sigh …*] i guess it has basil or thyme but i don’t have a good enuf palate to tell. smells delightful, delicious, delectable and “delovely” while cooking and almost that good when eating it. another good bruschetta base.
made it with vegetable oil and with olive oil. the olive oil is detectably better.
rated a FOUR cuz it’s more than i expected.

I purchased a case of Hodgson Mill European Cheese and Herb Bread Mix two days ago!!!! I purchased it as a Gold Box deal just for me, which made it ridiculously inexpensive, $10.73 a case of 6, delivered, which will average out to about $2 a loaf, more expensive than scratch, but not much more expensive, and I do not know of a recipe that could challenge this one. (If I knew in advance how delicious this mix is, I would have put it on the subscription program, bringing it down even further, to less than $9.60 a case, delivered) It was in my bread machine within 15 minutes of receiving it. Three hours later… my house starts smelling like a pizza parlor back in my home town Brooklyn 50 years ago. And, this stuff tastes like it smells, luscious! I made the mistake of baking it in my machine on dark, which made the crust just a little too dark, just short of burnt, but it was still the most delicious loaf I’ve produced, scratch or mix. It was liberally laced throughout with the herbs, and it was so moist and tender, you must try some! Do not hesitate, get this mix, it is the ultimate in ease, just add some butter, or oil of your choice, some water, the included yeast, and the mix, according to your machine, in 3-4 hours, your house too, will smell like your local home pizzeria:~)
P.S. It makes a 1 1/2 lb loaf, but can easily be adjusted down to a one pounder, there are directions for both.
P.P.S. Yeahs to Amazon for getting it to me in two days.
P.P.P.S. I have learned early in my bread machine history that you must let the finished loaf sit and cool down to room temperature on a bakers rack. It comes out of the machine piping hot and still cooking through the steam generated, so please, try to resist the urge to slice it up right away…… hey, hey, hey, I saw you… put that knife down! It really makes a huge difference.

P.P.P.P.S. I have since used this mix for pizza dough(instructions on box). It has turned my normally bland pizza into pizzeria style pizza, I was so proud of myself, I can now make pizza that rivals pizzeria style pizza!!!!

My Favorite Bread Mix
I am not a sandwich person, prefer hot food, but I made a sandwich with this bread using ham, salami, mayo, and some shredded Italian cheese. Oh my gosh, it was so good I had it for dinner three days in a row.
I’ve used the mix several times in my bread machine (a mini loaf in the Just for Dinner bread machine that Amazon used to sell, gosh those were great machines), cutting the recipe in half and being rather careless about the measuring. Came out great each time no matter how nonchalant I was about the amount of yeast, et al.
I’ve also made the full recipe once with my new KitchenAid stand mixer (a Friday Sale special on Amazon — thank you, Amazon, thank you!) and it came out even better. I might add that there were no instructions included for mixers, just bread machine and hand. I just did it by guesswork, and it came out wonderful.
So no matter how I mess up this recipe, I’ve been successful and gotten great bread. It is a very forgiving mix.
