This authentic steel cut Irish oatmeal cooks in just 5 minutes, not the 30 minutes it takes to cook regular steel cut oats. Unique nutty flavor and hearty texture.
I REALLY love oatmeal, not the creamy style, but al dente, nutty, crunchy style. Based on all the reviews, I was sure I’d love the McCann’s. I experimented with the McCann’s today, and I have to say that I don’t like them at all. Regardless of proportions or how I cooked them, they seemed to my taste to be gritty (they are chopped really fine) and not very flavorful. Sad to say, Amazon won’t accept returns of Grocery products.
I much prefer the WalMart generic Old Fashioned oats, measured 1 to 1 with water, and cooked quickly until the water is gone. Let them stand (covered) for 5 minutes and there it is:-)
I first heard about this cereal 3 years ago and have eaten it EVERY morning since then! A delicious, filling but not bloated breakfast that gets me started every day. I take a little more than a third of a cup and place it in a DEEP dish rectangular microwave safe bowl with about three quarters cup of water for 6 minutes and 10 seconds. Make sure the bowl you place it in is DEEP or it will bubble over and cause a mess. My bowl is over 3.5 inches deep. You will get to experiment with how much oatmeal you want to eat and how much water is right to mix with it but it will come out great for sure! As soon as it is out of the microwave I mix some sugar free hazelnut creamer and stir it up and I am ready for a great breakfast. I will sometimes mix in blueberries or raisins but this oatmeal is the best I have ever eaten and will have this the rest of my life;..it is THAT good!! Enjoy
This wasn’t all that easy for me to get made properly. I have a 1100 watt microwave and it took me some trial and error to get it to work right. The first try using the instructions resulted in big overflow, despite being in a very large bowl. After a few trys I found one and a half minutes at 60% power stir and repeat works reasonably well. It is pretty flavorless, so I throw in some cinnamon to add some flavor.
Quite simply, after trying many healthy oatmeals, McCann’s is the best one I’ve found. The “Quick & Easy” on it’s label tells the truth. And, the health benefits of this product absolutely work for me. It’s a terrific breakfast food.
The Oatmeal is great but when you go to put in the microwave it has a tendency to boil over, so use a bigger bowl than you think you need or you will be cleaning up a mess.
I’ve been having oatmeal for breakfast for years. Since my cholesterol is not excitingly high, I take oatmeal only on most weekdays, and have heartier breakfast on weekends. After reading some great reviews about Steel Cut oatmeal, I decided to give McCANN’S Steel Cut Irish Oatmeal, Quick & Easy, a try.
Well it sure is different from the old fashioned rolled oats. It’s quicker to cook (claim to take only 5 min). However, since I don’t want to spend time watching oatmeal on the stove or microwave, I cook the McCANN’s Quick & Easy version the same way I cook the old fashion oatmeal: in the previous night, add oatmeal and hot water to a pot, bring to a boil, them turn the stove off and cover the pot. The next morning reheat it in a bowl in the microwave for 2 min. This way it’s quick, and it never boils over. The Steel Cut oat has finer but crunchier texture than the old fashioned rolled oats. It also tastes nuttier. Some people prefer the steel cut. I actually prefer the old fashion because it is gummier and mix better with some sweet addition such as fruits and jam. But since I usually just add maple syrup for a quick breakfast, the steel cut irish oatmeal is almost just as good. After all, one needs some change when having the same oat 200 days a year.
McCann’s Steel Cut Irish Oatmeal, Quick and Easy is the Best Oatmeal Money Can Buy.
It is Healthy and Very Good For You. I eat it every day for Breakfast!I highly recommend it.
McCann’s Irish Oatmeal has more texture, fiber and flavor than your garden variety oatmeal; I think it’s the best. I like to add dried fruit and raisins to it sometimes, or you can throw in brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg if you like. By the way, I can verify that it’s true what they say about oatmeal’s ability to lower cholesterol; my total cholesterol dropped some 30+ pts this winter (yes we had winter here in FL). Thank you McCann’s, for a great product!
This product is great. You get the benefit of the fiber in the steel cut oat with only a 7 mintues cook time vs. 20+ minutes. I think it needs just a pinch of salt added, but this is great to because you control how much salt is in it vs. the traditional oatmeal that is full of salt. I was able to purchase it once at the store then they quit carring it. So I found it here on Amazon.
I love a healthy nutritious breakfast but hate spending any time on preparation. I was delighted to find McCann’s Steel Cut Irish Oatmeal, Quick and Easy since I prefer steel cut to rolled oats.
I have this every morning (I posted a picture of the nutritional label) and prepare 3/8 of a cup of oatmeal with 3/4 cup of water in the microwave for 5 minutes but at 40% power to prevent over boiling. It gives me a really good consistency and I add Splenda, lots of cinnamon and canned pumpkin puree along with whatever fresh fruit I have around. It’s delicious and for just over 300 calories, prepared this way, I have a breakfast that doesn’t play havoc with my blood sugar and keeps me satisfied till lunch.
I will admit that my little dog stands in line for her fair share of a couple of spoonfuls in her dish. She loves it and I think it is a nutritious way to start her day too.

My McCanns Steel Cut Oats arrived in great condition and a day sooner than expected. As for the oats…I hesitate to even call this oatmeal. I do not like regular rolled oats…to me they are mushy and icky.
My mom was extolling the virtues of steel cut oats and to silence her I tried some. Ohhh, they were wonderful – nothing like normal oatmeal.
The texture is different and it has a slightly nutty flavor…great!!
And, after a month of regular oat eating my cholesterol has dropped a couple of points.
We LOVE steel cut oats, but I have a preschooler who doesn’t like to wait for his oatmeal to cook 35 minutes. This is a wonderful version of it that cooks in 5 min. My whole family likes it as well as guests we’ve had. Steel cut oats have a “nuttier” texture than traditional oats.
I will NEVER go back to the thick, tasteless rolled oats we get here! I add a little honey and a dab of butter, and this is the absolute best!
I just tried this for the first time today. This is the best oatmeal ever. The texture reminds me of grits almost. Just a dab of brown sugar and it’s amazing the taste! It is so easy to make. It beats rolled oats by far!

This is a very good oatmeal. I normally eat steel cut oats and noticed these have a quicker cooking time than the original style oats. My wife picked this up for me, and after trying it, I can attest that it does cook quickly. It has a little different texture than regular steel cut oats, which are crunchier and nuttier. These are cut a little finer than the regular steel cuts, which would probably account for the quicker cooking time.
For the consumer who has previously tried steel cut oats and Scottish oatmeal, the texture of these oats are in between the two. They’re not cut quite as fine as Scottish oats, but they’re definitely cut finer than regular steel cuts.
Overall, these are definitely worth a try. I would still prefer the crunchier texture of regular steel cut oats, but these are definitely worth giving a try, especially if you don’t want to have a long cooking time.
All the benefits of slow-cooking real steel cut oats combined with getting your cereal in 5 minutes rather than a half hour. Really!!

I love this oatmeal, and eat it daily with hot pure maple syrup and whole milk. I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars because if one cooks it according to instructions, it cooks to the pan. My successful proportions are 1 cup of water to 1/3 cup oats – bring water to boil, add oats, turn to lowest heat (should still bubble) and cook uncovered for 7 minutes. I use a stainless steel pot on top of the stove. I would suggest to anyone not familiar with this oatmeal and just trying it to eat it for breakfast daily for 45 days and see if you begin to notice a dramatic positive change in your system after the first 30 days. That is what I did, and it made me decide that this would be my breakfast indefinitely.
I like oatmeal, simple as that. I love steel cut Irish oatmeal the best, but mostly didn’t use it as it takes 30-minutes to cook… until I found this! Yahoo! 5-minutes and Bob’s-your-uncle! I’ve found that for my wife and I, recommended oatmeal portions are a bit too much so I cut back:
0.5 cup McCann’s Quick & Easy
1.5 cup water
Boil water, add oats, bring back to boil, turn fire way down and almost completely cover pot (leave some open space!), 5-minutes later off with the gas, 1-minute later stir and serve. Consistency like grainy Cream of Wheat.
Best with honey and cream, but great alone!
Buy this product. It’s healthy. It tastes great – so much better than rolled oats. I lost 15 pounds by eating oatmeal every morning for 3 months and my cholesterol is now lower too.
This oatmeal is the best we have found. It’s always GOOD and cooks great! Love the 5 minute one. We soak it overnight and it works great and tastes wonderful! Good price too!
I eat these occasionally and I think there OK, but I’m not a oatmeal aficionado. However, my wife loves McCann’s, particularly in the winter. The best thing about these is that they are relatively quick and easy to prepare compared to the regular steel-cut oatmeal. It makes it practical to eat them during the working week since we both work.

Great aroma, great texture, great taste, great to take the chill out of a cool autumn morning. There’s something unique in McCann steel cut oats. Why haven’t we met before now??

No need to stir McCann’s for 30 minutes anymore. This product maintains the same quality as the original in a fraction of the time. The taste and quality are excellent and I fully recommend it to anybody who loves oatmeal.
The steel-cut oatmeal has the best taste and texture, and the Quick & Easy is exactly that!
My husband and I have eaten McCann’s steel cut oatmeal for years but with the original long cooking kind, we had to plan ahead to have it. This quick & easy variety makes it easy to have this oatmeal in just a few minutes. We love the chewey texture of McCann’s. This oatmeal can be used any way the other oatmeals can. Try in oatmeal & raisin cookies, the best ever!
This is the best oatmeal ever! I love it! It isn’t %100 instant, but it cooks quick and it taste great.
Trying to watch blood sugar and this is one of the good carbs that is a slow burn instead of grits in the morning. I ignored oatmeal my entire life because I am not into sweets for breakfast. Then someone suggested I fix this “savory” instead of sweet. So after cooking, I add a little healthy olive oil margarine, a little salt and break up a Morningstar Spicy Veggie Sausage patty into it. Just fabulous!
Love the roughness of these Oats. The price is amazing as compared to in the regular grocery store. Very happy with this product. Always in my pantry.
I had tried several other McCann’s Irish Oatmeal products and decided to go healthy and order the 6-pack of the Canisters. Pretty good but didn’t seem to be quite the consistency and flavor I remember enjoying from the boxed Quick Oats or the Long cooking variety. I’ll hang in there and keep cooking it.
Great product and worth the extra money. McCann’s steel cut oatmeal gives you energy longer than typical oatmeal on the market.
