The Tao of Tea, Pine Smoked Black Tea, Loose Leaf contains 100 percent Organic Black Tea Leaves. Very smoky, smooth and uplifting taste. Meaning Zheng mountain small tea variety, a name that was changed to Lapsang Souchong in the earlier part of the 19th century. During that time, many black and oolong teas had a characteristic woody, smoked flavor due to the use of wood-fired woks. Later, at the request of English merchants this smoking process was performed intentionally. Tea purists seek only the clean, clear and pure flavor of the leaf. This is because the unadulterated leaf has the capacity to provide an experience which has inspired many artists, musicians, philosophers and monks. Our company is based on this premise and offers great quality leaf that is fresh, flavorful and full of soul. Only a small portion of all tea made in the world comprises the ‘orthodox’ or full leaf style of processing. In addition, only a few tea areas remain where ‘old-style’ hand processing is still practiced from tea plants that grow wild or those that have been preserved for centuries. The Tao of Tea works primarily with tea growers that practice this true art of tea making.

Like Cheap Pine Incense
First, let me say that my husband likes this just fine. I think it’s awful. We bought it for a recipe. The aroma of cheap pine incense overwhelms the tea aroma when you open the can, and the same is true of the made tea. One word: yuck. I do not want to use it in the recipe. I’m sure it would overwhelm all of the other flavors.

Not strong enough smoke flavor
I am still on the quest for a great lapsang souchoung (aka pine-smoked tea). This falls short. It misses the mark on the bold smokey flavors that I expect. Tried longer brewing times, still too meek.
A cultivated taste?
Tried this first in a little tea shop in Portland Oregon and was surprised to find it on Amazon at a great price. Has become my favorite tea, but I cxan understand why some won’t like it as it is not your usual cup-of-tea. In my family there are 2 who really like it and 4 who do not. But I bought it for myself!
This is a wonderful smoked tea.
This tea is absolutely superb, for a smoked tea. I have enjoyed this tea in a Tao of Tea, teahouse and just had to buy some to take home. Smoked teas aren’t for everyone and even for a smoked tea this one is rather unique. But I think the light pine undertone to the smoky malty flavor is absolutely perfect.
